Figures from Auto Trader show buyers have put the brakes on buying grey, according to their latest online searches.

Over the last decade, grey motors have been the top UK sellers but now the old favourite black is back.
Auto Trader reveal over 550 million search clicks were made for black cars out of 2.2 billion in 2023. Clicks for grey came in second with white in third place with 350 million searches.
It seems the latest pop culture has also been a boost for more vivid colour choice with the online site reporting a spike in searches for pink cars. Barbie-mania is the big factor here.
Carmakers have an influential part to play in our decision-making. Refreshingly, Fiat has dropped grey motors and instead offers its buyers brighter colour tones such as red, orange and blue.
Looking back over the decades the colour choices were so much more exciting and aspirational from the racing heritage of British Racing Green and Rosso Corsa red of Italy to period classic tones such as dark blue, beige, maroon and brown.
For all the investment that goes on into researching colour trends for today’s buyers it seems black is here to stay … for now at least …. but please, let’s drop the matt-black finish!
