Event report: Drive it day-Jowett

Saltaire is a great location for a classic car event. At the heart of West Yorkshire Saltaire is a Victorian model village with a huge mill at its heart. The mill churned out millions of yards of cloth for the whole world to consume. Today it is an art gallery featuring local artist, David Hockney as well as upmarket shopping, an attractive park nearby and the model village is a world heritage site.

For drive it day on the 27th the Jowett Owners Club (The worlds oldest one make car club) gathered in the grounds of the mill. About a dozen cars representing the full Jowett range of vehicles, vans to Javelins all in excellent shape with passionate and enthusiastic owners.

  1. With reference to Jowett cars.

We regularly see an Jowett driven to the track and raced at most North Island race circuits here in New Zealand.

It is a testament to the commitment of the owner/ driver and the quality of the cars.

I will try get photos next time I’m racing, I enjoy hearing what’s going on in my home county, thanks for your work!

    1. Hi mike, great to hear from you. Jowett have strong racing history, mostly built on endurance rather than speed. There is a race version on the historic scene here. Would love to see pics, email Yorkshirepublications@gmail.com. If you search the site for Jowett you will find a few articles.
