Diecast model business to mark milestone with free car show

By Classic Yorkshire contributor Tony Lofthouse

A model car shop in Halifax is getting ready to celebrate its 40th birthday next year by holding a big classic car weekend.

Replicar, based in historic Piece Hall, is a treasure trove of diecast models – new and secondhand – from top makers including Corgi, Dinky, Matchbox, Solido and Hot Wheels.

Today, the business is run by model vehicle expert, Paul Talbot and his wife, Julie and covers sales through the shop and online, via Facebook.

Earlier this month, I popped along to meet Paul and see for myself the hundreds of collectible models on display. It was great to also learn more about the different scales the cars come in.

Paul says the shop appeals to everyone from the curious to car loving kids and parents to ‘petrolheads’!

He adds: “The market for classic cars remains strong and prices vary depending on what you want. They range from around £45 for a smaller model right up to £200 for larger 1:18 scale models. We also have a popular ‘pound box’ of mini cars for youngsters.

“I also get a good deal of business building ‘bespoke’ model cars to order for people looking to relive their first motors. Early Escorts and Minis are popular.

“It’s all about celebrating our own favourite cars and that gave us the idea for our classic car weekend.”

The event takes place on 26-27th April 2025 and will be in the courtyard of the former Georgian cloth hall in the centre of Halifax.

Yorkshire classic car owners can book their spot now by sending their name, contact details, car type and reg to Paul either by email: Ptalbot1968@outlook.com or by phoning 01422 414447/07378 248967.

If you’ve not been to Piece Hall yet you’re missing a treat. It makes a great day out and while you’re there you can pop into Replicar in Unit CS15, open Tues-Sunday. It’s a bit special!
